Yakima Products, the US manufacturer of vehicle racks, this week announced its entry into the fishing market.
“For Fall 2019, the brand officially enters the recreational fishing market with three all-new rooftop fishing rod carriers,” says the Portland, Oregon, company in a statement.
“With 49 million anglers in the US, many of whom are already Yakima consumers, it made sense to bring our expertise in cargo management to the world of fishing,” adds Garrett Barnum, Category Director.
“However, this was never going to be an ‘us too’ play. Instead, we’ve gone all-in right out of the gate with three smartly designed and well-built products for a wide range of anglers.”
The new line of rod carriers now available at associated dealers and at Yakima.com includes the DoubleHaul, winner of GearJunkie.com’s best in show award at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. It is a premium rod carrier made specifically for fly rods.
The TopWater is a purpose-built storage box for conventional rods and reels with room for other tackle, and the ReelDeal is a simple and economical solution for transporting up to eight fully-rigged rods on any style of roof rack.
The hardcore kayakers and cyclists put Yakima on the map at the 1984 Summer Olympics, decking out every race vehicle with aerodynamic fairings.
Yakima has been designing and manufacturing vehicle racks since 1979, starting as a small machine shop in Yakima, Washington State, before being bought by Steve Cole and Don Banducci.
