Carp anglers seeking a rod with a quality look but a surprisingly affordable price tag would do well to take a look at the Wychwood D-201.

This 3lb test curve model is built on carbon blanks sourced from Japan with a matt gray weave complemented by black components, giving an appearance that will appeal to carpers across a broad experience range. But at £89.99 the rod is within the budget of any carp fisherman.

Wychwood describes the D-201 as the “perfect combination of finesse and power.” In product testing, it has proved to be well balanced with a parabolic action and plenty of muscle for casting and playing specimen fish, yet forgiving enough to compensate for those last minute thrashes at the net that can result in hook pulls.

Wychwood, one of the brands from UK manufacturer Leeda, hasn’t skimped on the detail, incorporating a high-grade EVA handle, quality, screw-locking reel seat, a 50mm butt ring and triple-legged Sea Guide rings throughout. The D-201 also comes with a line clip and engraved butt cap.
