Cortland International has appointed World Fishing Tackle GmbH (WFT) as the sole distributor of all Cortland products in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The agreement was announced jointly by Cortland International Director Trevor Maundrell and WFT Managing Director Christian Dibisch and takes effect from this week.

Cortland International is a joint venture set up at the beginning of this year between the Cortland Line Company and Australia’s largest fishing tackle distributor, Jarvis Walker. It has global responsibility for marketing Cortland products outside of the USA and Canada.

WFT, based in Krefeld, Germany, markets a wide range of own-brand products, as well as acting as distributor for a number of top brands including Boone Bait (lures), Condor Marine (sonar equipment) and Ryobi (reels).

“Germany, Austria and Switzerland combine as an important market for the future growth of the Cortland brand,” said Maundrell. “Recreational fishing is a popular activity in this region, which also generates an impressive number of fishing tourists who travel to fish throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

“We believe this strategic alliance with WFT will create exciting new opportunities for Cortland. In 2015 Cortland celebrates its 100-year anniversary and as the company looks forward to the next 100 years we recognise the importance of growing market share throughout Europe.

“WFT’s operation is very impressive, as are its in-house skills, resources and experience, and we are looking forward to working with the WFT team to achieve success, growth and improved consumer access to Cortland products in this region,” he said.

Christian Dibisch said: “The Cortland brand has a great history and we are excited by its potential for growth in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. WFT will proudly represent Cortland and we look forward to the possibilities and working with Cortland International.”

In a separate agreement with Jarvis Walker, WFT has also become distributor of the Australian company’s popular Watersnake Electric Trolling Motors.
