Western Filament: launching two new TUF-Line products at ICAST.

Western Filament is to launch two of its latest line innovations at ICAST.

The Grand Junction, Colorado, company will be debuting its TUF®-LINE HeviCore™ and TUF®-LINE SuperCast™ lines in Orlando.

HeviCore, as the name implies, was developed to have fast sinking characteristics for all sub-surface, jigging and trolling applications.

Western Filament says it is an exciting new braided line that incorporates a weighted PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) core.

It adds: “Where other companies replace an exterior strand of PE fibre in their braid to incorporate similar materials, we have used the space in the centre of the braid to incorporate the PTFE as a core, creating our Integrated Core Design.

“This ingenious use of space allows HeviCore to use 25% more PTFE without sacrificing diameter. The result is increased abrasion resistance, 15% higher stretch and increased knot security. Independent testing has shown abrasion resistance far superior to other braided lines.”

HeviCore is 40% heavier than Western Filament’s standard braid and the company adds that the additional weight translates to longer casts and extra distance when trying to reach fish that spook easily or that are hard to reach.

“HeviCore overcomes braid’s natural characteristics and maintains a more direct line to your lure. The more direct contact increases the ability to detect the lightest strikes for quicker hooksets, especially in windy conditions.”

Designed for both fresh and saltwater anglers – and made in the USA – HeviCore is available in 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30, 50, 65 and 80 lb tests in 100, 125, 300 and 2,500 yard lengths in both green and hi-vis yellow.

Western Filament says that the TUF-LINE SuperCast is the longest casting and easiest handling superline that it has ever developed.

“Utilising a revolutionary post-process coating that adds lubricity, SuperCast will change the way you think about braided line,” adds Western Filament. “The coating allows the line to have superior castability and distance compared to monofilament, fluorocarbon or standard braided line. The added lubricity allows knots to cinch down tighter for higher strength and security.

“Traditional braided lines can be noisy when passing through the guides. In many situations that sound can alert wary fish. SuperCast, with its smooth outer coasting, quietly glides through the guides allowing longer distance and effortless casting.

“We are confident that it is the quietest and easiest to manage superline ever developed.

“SuperCast eliminates common issues associated with spinning reels using braid – poor bail performance, tip wraps and wind knots – due to the unique ultra-round build. For casting reel applications, this ultra-round construction virtually eliminates the lines’ ability to dig itself in and that will give you trouble-free handling all day long.

“Manufactured with a unique bi-component process, SuperCast incorporates an exclusive inside-out process that ensures a perfectly round, smooth and abrasion resistant superline that does not break or lose its rigidity with prolonged use.

The coating also ensures permanent colouration of the line so it will not fade, flake or bleed.”

It is available in 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, and 30 lb tests in 100, 125, 300 and 1,250 yard lengths in both green and hi-vis yellow.
