Weihai, the heart of the Chinese manufacturing industry, played host to the annual CGC show last week and recorded a number of year-on-year increases.

The 780-strong exhibitor list was 6% up on last year, without including those who co-exhibited with another business. The number of overseas exhibitors was also up.

The number of overseas buyers (609 from 296 companies and 56 countries) increased by 15%, with Russia, Korea and Malaysia providing the most overseas visitors.

Total number of buyers attending was 2,405, of which 1,796 were Chinese.

In order to accommodate more exhibitors, the organisers had restricted the space of some larger booths, making room for another 40 companies on the show floor. However, there was still a waiting list of more than 400.

Domestic exhibitors came from 18 Chinese provinces, four more than last year, the provinces of Shandong, Hebei and Zhejiang providing the most. The 15 overseas exhibitors came from seven countries including Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Japan and the USA.

The show has increased its footprint from 8,000 square metres when it was first held in 2008 to more than 34,000 square feet this year. All of this year’s booths were resold for 2017.

A number of businesses held their sales conferences at the show and this aspect of the event will receive more support from the organiser next year. One of CGC’s biggest attractions is the opportunity to visit factories in the region after the show.
