Johnson Outdoors Watercraft brand, Old Town Canoes and Kayaks, has completely re-engineered the Loon, offering three new models that are currently shipping.

These include two fishing specific versions – the Loon Angler 106 and the 126. Measuring 10ft 6ins and weighing just 46lb, the Loon Angler 106 is said to be perfect for accessing difficult-to-reach locations. Because of its minimal weight it is quick and easy to launch and can be transported on a car roof rack. It retails at $999.99 (US).

The Loon Angler 126 is 12ft 6ins long and 31ins wide. It features a spacious 23ins x 56ins cockpit, weighs 58lbs and can handle a maximum load of 450lbs.

Like the rest of the new Loon series, the 126 has extra width and volume in the three-layer, sit-inside hull for optimum stability, comfort and paddling ease. It also boasts plenty of storage space, including bow and stern deck bungees for securing bulky items and a rear click-seal hatch with bulkhead to keep essentials dry and safe. It retails at $1099.99 (US).

Old Town says that one of the most exciting features is the ‘smart’ workdeck. Positioned at arm’s reach, it features accessory trays, cup holder, water bottle cage mount and a large dry-storage compartment with a latched lid. The USB port ensures that phones, POV cameras, hand-held GPS units and other electronics are kept fully charged.

There is also a cell phone with bungee to prevent your device falling overboard. Alongside that, an integrated Slide Track mount makes customizing the boat with accessories an easy task.

The workdeck is also easy to detach via Old Town’s Quick-Lock System.

Old Town adds that its Active Comfort System 2.0 (ACS2) seat is the ‘king of kayak comfort and performance’.

It allows for easy adjustments, under-leg support, premium padding and flow-through ventilation and quick-drying mesh fabric.

Stand-out features include:

  • Active Comfort System 2.0 (ACS2) seat;
  • Thigh pads (Match ACS2 padding);
  • Click-seal hatch with bulkhead;
  • Support Track Foot Brace System;
  • Durable three-layer construction;
  • Flush mount rod holders;
  • Anchor Trolley System;
  • Removable Workdeck with USB included;
  • Bow and stern bungees;
  • Bow and stern carry handles;
  • Sharp keel line for performance.
