Anglers who like to change the hooks in their jigheads will want to take a look at the Hydra Heads introduced by Canadian company Freedom Tackle.

The key to this range is that the hook is not an integral part of the head. It comes separately and can be changed in a matter of seconds, eliminating the need for re-tying.

Instead of the common hook-and-head design, the Hydra head incorporates a 300lb stainless steel hook attachment inside a brass echo chamber, so that the head and hook move independently.

This proprietary interchangeable hook design allows anglers to customise the lure with any brand or style of hook they wish, to adapt to the conditions and the fishing environment.

This, says the manufacturer, prevents hooked fish getting leverage to throw the lure. It also enhances the bait’s movement. The lifelike head, 3D hologram eyes and epoxy finish add to the realism.

Hydra swimbait heads are available in sizes from 1/8 ounce up to an ounce and come with premium black nickel chemically-sharpened hooks. Patterns include golden shad, hot shad, pearl and silver shad.

Founded in 2010 and based in Toronto, Ontario, Freedom Tackle has won a number of product awards in recent years.
