Mustad has recruited former Rapala VMC Corporation executive Aku Valta to head its newly reorganised sales and distribution operation in Asia.
Valta, who spent nearly 20 years in senior management positions with the Finnish tackle giant, has been appointed General Manager of Mustad’s newly formed APAC (Pacific Asia) division, the result of the merger of its sportfishing, OEM and commercial operations in the region.
Mustad CEO John Are Lindstad told Angling International that the move has been made to triple revenue from the region. There will now be one focused sales and distribution team.
Australian-based Valta, who joined the company at the beginning of the month, has vast experience of working in Asia. He comes on board during a period of growth for Mustad, which has committed itself to tripling the size of the business – through acquisitions and organic growth – in the next five years.
Earlier this year it acquired US line brand TUF-Line from Western Filament, a move that saw it add a new category to its portfolio of products. Lindstad added that mergers and acquisitions remain part of its business plan for 2020.
