Tycoon Tackle, the ‘made in the US’ manufacturer of saltwater fishing gear, has moved into Puerto Rico with the appointment of a certified agent in the Caribbean country.
Tycoon Tackle has agreed a partnership with San Juan-based The Tackle Box, a one–stop business that caters for the needs of all inshore and offshore anglers.
Jose Pazos, owner of The Tackle Box, said: “We are very happy to be associated with Tycoon Tackle. The brand has been on the market since before I started fishing, selling the best rods in history. I still have customers who have had their Tycoon rods for more than 40 years and never wanted to change them – they only bring them back for refurbishment.”
Tim O’Brien, President of Tycoon Tackle, added: “We are excited to have Jose and The Tackle Box as one of our family of certified agents. Their knowledge of fishing tackle and the sport will be a tremendous asset to our company and I look forward to working with them in the coming years.”
Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, Tycoon Tackle originated in Miami in 1935 and at one time boasted more than 95% of all world record fish.
“The Tackle Box appealed to us for three reasons,” said O’Brien. “Any time we enter a market we seek recommendations from our existing client base in the area. This is a key element because if our customers are satisfied with the prospective agent’s service then they are more likely to purchase from that agent.
“Our representatives also look at the market and select which prospective agent we should target. That being said, we seek business partners and not just dealers. We want long-term relationships. Our values and the values of Jose concerning sportsmanship, ethics and integrity are also in line with ours.”
O’Brien said that The Tackle Shop would be promoting its trolling rods. “It has become the go-to supplier of trolling rods in San Juan.”
Tycoon currently operates in the US, Japan and Mexico, but O’Brien revealed it was looking at other export markets, including Australia, South Africa and the UK.
