Developed in conjunction with top anglers, the new M-POW-R reel helps physically-challenged fishermen rediscover the joys of their sport.

The new M-POW-R® Reel has been developed with advice from top US anglers, including Al Lindner, Dan Sura, Dave Csanda and Jeff Zernov, to help physically-challenged fishermen rediscover the joys of their sport.

With further input from anglers with physical limitations, this motorised spinning reel is designed to fit virtually any spinning, ice or fly rod, thanks to an innovative, versatile harness.

Head of the development team is Dr. Roland ‘Doc’ Kehr, former co-owner of the Lindy Little Joe tackle company, prior to its sale to Pradco in 2008. Kehr initially deigned the reel for his son Nathan, a cerebral palsy sufferer who is unable to use his left arm and hand.

“It’s enabled Nathan to fully experience the thrill of fighting and landing more and bigger fish, and we’re confident it will empower other people facing physical challenges,” said Dr. Kerr.

In addition to the reel, the M-POW-R package includes the harness, a four-amp battery, battery charger, fanny pack and a pulse with modulated speed control that provides optimum torque. It also comes with spare spool, reel handle and a power point adaptor plug.

Anglers operate the reel through a thumb-actuated button attached to the rod via the harness.

John Vandercook, a passionate and discerning angler who lost his left arm in a motorcycle accident, said: “I can do anything any other angler can do, it just takes me longer. But the M-POW-R reel and harness now allows me to retrieve the bait or fight a fish without pressing the reel handle against my ribs to reel. For years I’ve focused on jig fishing and trolling, but the M-POW-R now makes it possible for me to fish bass, trout, whatever … on the retrieve. As soon as that bait hits the water it’s one push of the button and that bait is moving. In my experience, that’s what gets strikes.

“Depending on what, where and how I’m fishing, I may want to use a longer, shorter, heavier or lighter action rod. The new M-POW-R gives me that flexibility.”

The company will continue to sell the original M-POW-R Reel® and Rod combo package, which includes a two-piece medium action graphite rod to complement the reel and harness.
