Thomas & Thomas (T&T), the American-made fly rod brand, has revealed its new models for 2014.

The Massachusetts manufacturer has announced four new series that it believes will build on the sales momentum of this year. It has also added models to popular existing ranges.

For its NS II Series, T&T has taken the best-selling No Sanctuary rods and modified and upgraded them with improved components as well as extending the range into salmon, steelhead and saltwater sizes. The result is a new collection of seven four-piece, fast-action fly rods comfortable when catching big fish in big waters in big winds.

The company’s new Advanced Trout Series (ATS) comprises medium-fast rods in longer lengths designed for European style nymphing when extra stealth, reach, line control and tip sensitivity are called for. Interestingly, T&T has selected single-foot RECoil guides for the first time to reduce weight in a rod likely to be used for extended periods. The six, four-piece models put the emphasis on technical presentation.

T&T’s flagship saltwater rods are grouped in the seven-strong SOLAR Series, a collection of fast-action, four-piece models optimised for typical ‘flats’ fishing. Developed in conjunction with some of the best saltwater tournament guides, the series features a raft of new technologies resulting from two years of R&D on the saltwater fly fishing circuit.

Smooth, medium-fast, progressive actions are hallmarks of the rods in the DNA Switch series, designed for true single-hand or double-hand versatility. The eight-rod collection features high spec components and good-looking cosmetics. Comprising four pieces, this range makes a clear distinction between Switch and small Spey rods, says T&T.

Turning to existing rod lines, T&T has added two new models to its DNA Spey Series to reflect the widening application of two-handed techniques and the growing number of trout and warm water anglers fishing ‘down ‘n across’.

The DNA XD Series is also boosted by the addition of two extra-deep loading two-handers for the ‘sustained anchor’ caster fishing heavy tips for salmon and steelhead.

“The revitalisation of the Thomas & Thomas product line-up continues with another big year for new product introductions,” said owner, Mark Richens. “We now have products across all key areas, from light presentation trout rods through to the largest two-handers and everything in between.

“We have focused on three key areas – blank technology, market leading components and refined, but contemporary cosmetics and have made breakthrough improvements in each area. Most of our rods now feature latest generation high modulus materials with improved binding resins.

“We’ve reduced the weight of all components and incorporated maximum specifications, with exotic wood spacers, titanium stripping guides on all models and either Snake Brand Universal or RECoil guides across the board. Truly, T&T offers the highest specified production fly rods around. We’re looking forward to a strong 2014.”

All the new rods are now available from T&T authorised dealers through its website.
