Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) has responded to the rise in the popularity of fly-fishing for large predator species with the introduction of the Esox fly rod.
The new family of 300-400 and 400-500 grain musky fly rods is an extension of the Dallas, Texas, company’s successful Mangrove Series line of fly rods, launched earlier this year.
Calling on the experience of fly tier and advisory staff member, Blane Chocklett, a long-time predator fisherman, TFO has designed the Esox for what it describes as the hardcore angler looking to cast bushy, air-resistant flies for species like musky, barracuda, pike and roosterfish.
The rod uses the manufacturer’s proprietary TiCr blank coating to help protect it from damage. The non-glare chestnut coloured blank is equipped with sturdy Tactical Guides that are saltwater-safe and designed not to break or pop out like some ceramic guides. The Esox also features a modified full-wells grip and an extended IGFA-compliant fighting butt.
As well as helping to pick up and cast heavy lines and large flies, the exaggerated butt is also useful when it comes to making strikes near the boat. Hook keeps are positioned on each side of the aluminium, up-locking reel seat. The rods come with TFO’s unconditional lifetime warranty.
