Shimano has this morning announced a new partnership with Down South Trading (DST), based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The partnership involves the distribution of Shimano products in South Africa and in countries directly bordering it. The agreement will come into operation from October 1st this year.
“We are extremely excited to be partnering with DST and strongly believe that with its expertise and experience we will be able to grow the Shimano brand, ensuring that Shimano is ambitious in the manufacture and distribution of fishing products,” said Akira Koshimizu, Managing Director of Shimano Europe’s Tackle Division.
DST dates back to the 1940s when Rusty Pledger began importing and distributing international fishing products. Collectively the DST team has over 100 years’ experience in importing, distributing and building fishing brands.
“We are extremely proud and honoured to be part of the progressive and innovative Shimano team,” said DST’s Grant Pledger, whose family are leading lights in the South African Fishing Tackle Agents and Distributors (SAFTAD) organisation and the South African Consolidated Recreational Angling Association (SACRAA).
“We look forward to growing the brand in our markets to ensure every angler in the area is able to invest in and fish with the number one brand in fishing.”
