French bait company Sensas, which acquired its Czech Republic distributor Rybolov last month, has not ruled out the possibility of similar moves in the future.
The takeover, reported exclusively on the Angling International website, means that Rybolov will now distribute Sensas brands exclusively in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Sensas already has a similar operation in Poland, Sensas Polska.
Asked if Sensas would like to make more acquisitions in other countries, Export Manager Bernard Leveque said: “We already have sales agencies with our own salesmen in most European countries such as Germany, Belgium and Holland, but of course, we are open to discuss opportunities in countries where our our presence can be improved.
“Our objective is to increase our presence with retailers all over Europe.”
Sensas Chairman and Managing Director, Hugues Nello, said the acquisition would allow closer working with retailers to achieve substantial growth and to strengthen its position in eastern Europe ‘where we still have big potential for our six brands’.
The previous owner of Rybolov, Zdenek Vanek, has left the company. He has been replaced by long-time employee, Martin Kubernat, who becomes General Manager. “There is big potential for the sale of Sensas products, particularly for its Starbaits carp brand,” said Kubernat. “There is a lot of carp fishing here and retail customers like this type of bait.”
Sensas enhanced it reputation in the carp market at EFTTEX last year when its Layerz bait won the best soft bait category in the New Product Awards.
Rybolov has been working with Sensas for 15 years. Prior to the takeover, it had been distributing a number of other top brands including Sasame, Abu Garcia and Berkley.
