Svendsen Sport brand, Savage Gear, is set to open a sales office in America following the amicable termination of its distribution agreement in the region with Okuma.
A joint statement from Svendsen Sport and Okuma said that move has been prompted by strong growth in sales of Okuma rods and reels and a decision by the company to focus its efforts on only selling its own branded products.
Savage Gear USA will serve the American market from its own logistic facilities, with its sales, marketing and product development being headed up by Magnus Gunnarson, former Vice President of Mustad America. The new company will make its debut at next month’s ICAST.
Okuma and Svendsen Sport say that the decision has been made in good faith and that Okuma will continue to supply Savage Gear products until the new office and warehouse is up and running in around three months’ time.
The decision does not affect the European market where Svendsen Sport and Okuma enjoy a long and successful partnership for over 30 years. “This cooperation stays the same and both companies will continue to work very closely in terms of product development, marketing and distribution,” said the joint statement..
