The Edge Elite is one of five models in the new series.

Ardent, the reel manufacturer which proudly proclaims that all its freshwater baitcasting reels are made in the USA, is set to deliver the first orders of its new reel range, which it says is ‘nothing short of game changing to bass fishing as we know it’.

The new Ardent Edge series of baitcasting reels consists of five high performance reels: the Edge Elite, the Edge Tour, the Edge Inshore Pro, the Edge Pro and the Edge Tournament. The first deliveries will be hitting stores in the next few weeks.

The series was appreciated by the judges at the EFTTEX Awards in June and launched to the US trade at ICAST in Las Vegas in July.

All the reels in the series are designed around an exceptionally strong yet extremely lightweight aluminium frame. This is combined with high-end components such as ABEC stainless steel ball bearings, a 7075-T6 triple bearing spool, a helically-cut aircraft aluminium drive gear and a six-pin centrifugal braking system.

But what really sets Ardent Edge reels apart, says Ardent, is the new patent pending Drag Tracking Technology. This ‘breakthrough technology’ has been hailed as the ‘greatest fishing reel innovation ever’ by former BASS Angler of the Year Denny Brauer, who appears in this supporting video detailing its benefits.

Drag Tracking Technology allows the level wind eyelet to track in parallel with the line location on the spool as line is being pulled from the reel in drag mode. This reduces the chance of line break on large fish by eliminating the sharp angles caused by the level wind eyelet being out of sync with the line location on the spool in drag mode.

More details can be found at and in December’s Reel Special issue of Angling International, mailed direct to subscribers at the end of November.
