Rapala Canada has produced what it considers to be the ‘ultimate’ freshwater fishing rod.

The Oshawa, Ontario rod and reel manufacturer and wholesaler says that the eight-model Rapala Concept Ti series has been designed for high-end fishing tackle enthusiasts.

Tom McMurray, Director of Advertising and Promotion, says: “We are very excited about the development of the Concept Ti series of rods. For the past ten years we have been steadily refining our line-up of premium fishing rods that cater for every angling technique a Canadian angler will encounter – we now list over 250 rods in 13 categories.

“Our goal has always been to go further and give the consumer more – more performance, more features and more value for the dollar than any other brand.

“While competitors use some high-end components, they tend to cut corners to make extra margins. This is not the case in our range. We always go further.”

McMurray adds: “Every Concept Ti rod starts with a revolutionary high-modulus 3M™ Powerlux™ rod blank, the composites of which feature a technology that contains nano-sized spheres of silica that are so small they can flow between the individual filaments of carbon fibre to create a matrix of strength throughout.

“The resulting material enables us to develop rods that are not only incredibly strong and durable, but also lighter and more sensitive. They are up to 30% lighter and 60% stronger than normal blanks.

“Overall, the design of the rods maintains maximum stability throughout the casting motion which increases accuracy, speed and sensitivity.”

The rods are fitted with the latest Fuji brand components, including ‘tangle-free’ K-Series titanium frame guides with SiC inserts. McMurray says: “We utilise these guides with the specified Fuji spacing and although we use a slightly smaller ring size than standard, we do not use the ‘micro guides’ – opting to specify a hybrid size instead.

“In Canada we encounter a range of fishing temperatures and the micro-sized guides have a tendency to freeze too quickly when it hits sub-zero.

“This size is a good median, providing superior performance.”

The minimalist handle design is fashioned from the Fuji SK2 skeletal reel seat system that is complemented by premium grade, high-density hypalon sculptured grips.

“We always try to create rods that balance well to lessen angler fatigue. The finished rods average between 2.5 and 3.5 ounces (71-100g) which is extremely light considering that most of the rods are longer than six feet and use heavier actions that can accommodate a larger range of lure weights.”

Rapala Canada is part of the Rapala VMC Corporation – the manufacturer of lures, fishing tackle, outdoor clothing and other products. It was a double winner at EFTTEX 2011 with its unique Eco Wear waders – best in the New Fishing Apparel category – and Sufix Synergy Carp Line that won the Best New Monoflament Line Award.
