One of Rapala’s most successful baits of last year will be introduced in six new colour patterns in 2016.

The company’s Jigging Rap will now be available in Pearl White, Bluegill, Regal Shad, Helsinki Shad, Redfire Crawdad and Purpledescent.

Initially launched as ice fishing lures, Jigging Raps have more recently become favourites as open-water baits, with leading anglers like Jacob Wheeler using them to record tournament wins and placings.

Winner of the 2012 FLW Tour Championship, Wheeler also fished Jigging Raps enroute to a top 15 finish in last year’s Bassmaster Classic.

“They’ll catch bass all over the country,” says Wheeler. “They also work for walleye and other species. It’s a lure for multiple species.”

With a balanced, weighted minnow profile, the Jigging Rap swims in circles on the fall. The single reversed hooks on the nose and rear, plus a centre treble hung from a belly eyelet, means the lure is well equipped to maximise hook-ups. “It’s a mousetrap waiting to happen,” added Wheeler.

The new colour patterns are available in all five Jigging Rap sizes – 02, 03, 05, 07 and 09.
