Sunglasses are an essential part of any angler’s equipment, but keeping them safe when they are not being worn can be a difficult.
Now Popticals Sunglasses says it has the answer with a patented design that allows their glasses to fit into a small protective case that can be stowed away safely in a pocket or tackle box without fear of damage.
Popticals believe it is the biggest innovation in fishing sunglasses since their invention. The design is based on what is call the FL2 Micro-Rail System, which is effectively a track built into the frames that allows the lenses to slide in parallel to each other to fit into the compact case.
A powerful magnet guides the connecting pieces for a quick and easy connection. The system is made from corrosion and rust-proof materials.
Company founder David Porter came up with the idea as a solution to carrying sunglasses easily and safely when they are not in use, believing that existing cases were too bulky and, without a case, were often broken or lost.
Popticals’ new line of five frames and 25 colour styles was first unveiled in the summer at ICAST and is now available. The new models feature Zeiss polarised nylon lenses, said to be lighter and clearer than the polycarbonate used in many other products.
Popticals are made in Italy and fans of the new product include FLW pro Scott Suggs. “Popticals let you see details you can’t see with other sunglasses,” he says. “I know what I am looking at when I see it the first time. The guessing is gone.”
