US fishing tackle storage specialist Plano Synergy is supporting a nationwide campaign to promote boating and fishing.
The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) is one of the key movers behind the Get On Board initiative that has been launched to help more Americans take up the pursuits. Its cause has been given a greater impetus with the surge in participation following the COVID-19 pandemic and an emphasis on retaining those who have taken up angling.
Plano is an enthusiastic supporter of the RBFF and its efforts to promote fishing participation through its TakeMeFishing campaign. Its Marketing Manager – Fish, Chris Russell, told Angling International: “Supporting initiatives to get more people involved in the sport is core to our business.”
The Get on Board campaign is a collaboration between TakeMeFishing and Discover Boating and includes a comprehensive toolkit for the fishing and boating industries. The campaign is built so everyone in the industry can use its complementary marketing tools freely and easily to ensure that those taking up fishing for the first time get the support they need to continue enjoying their sport.
Response from the boating industry has been encouraging, but those in the fishing sector have been slow to take advantage of the tools available to them to promote participation and retain the newcomers to the sport.
Russell said: “It is very important that new anglers have access to information they need on where to fish, where to get a licence, tips on how to cast, bait a hook and the equipment they need.
“This is all included in the plug-ins and information provided on the RBFF’s TakeMeFishing website and can be used by everyone in the industry. It is the responsibility of those within the trade – as an angler, business and industry – to do their bit to encourage participation.
“Plano is on the brink of relaunching its website and one of the features will be plug-ins and information provided for the industry from the TakeMeFishing website.
“I encourage everyone in the industry to get involved and utilise the tools provided to make the most of the great opportunity we have been given by the surge in people taking up the sport.”
