‘Perfectly timed’ Weihai CGC Expo reaffirms its global appeal

This month’s Weihai CGC Expo attracted more than 800 exhibitors and is continuing to grow as an international event in its own right.

The Weihai CGC Expo continues to grow as visitors and exhibitors alike flock to the heartland of the Chinese fishing tackle manufacturing industry.

Over the last 12 years it has grown from a fledgling show in the shadow of its more illustrious bigger brother – China Fish – to become a successful event in its own right.

This year more than 800 exhibitors filled in excess of 35,000sqm of floorspace. Sandor Sujko, Product Manager at Hungarian bait manufacturer Energofish, has been a regular visitor to the Weihai CGC. He said: “It is always a very successful business trip for the company.  

“It is a fast-growing show which has become vital for us as it offers opportunities to meet our eastern suppliers and check out new ones. Its international appeal is also growing and we encounter our partners from all over the world.

“The timing is just right for us as its comes at the end of the season and is a chance for us to focus on the next campaign. There is also time for us to find new products and still include them in our range for the next year.

“Both China Fish and the Weihai CGC Expo are ‘cannot miss’ fishing tackle trade shows for us.”

Singapore-based Hong Guan (Tackle), owner of the Pioneer brand, made its debut at Weihai earlier this month. Managing Director Lee Seng Shoy told Angling International that he was very pleased with the overall result of its first appearance and would be returning next year.

“We have been monitoring the show and getting feedback from our customers over the last two years. Following that, we decided it is the place to be for us. Its timing is good as it allows us, as exhibitors, to showcase and gather feedback on our new products that will be available in the following year.”

Edson Mattar, Trader at Brazilian line brand Mazzaferro, said he was impressed by the number and quality of visitors to the company’s booth. “We were looking to meet up with Chinese and international companies and from that point of view it was successful for us. There was also a large number from the Middle East, which is an important market for us.”

Wang Qian Gang, President of rod maker Weihai Hanhigh, said that this year its booth attracted more visitors than ever before. He added: “Because Weihai is one of the most important fishing tackle manufacturing bases in the world, there are thousands of suppliers of all types of equipment. You can find everything you need. The fact that you can also visit the factories is a major consideration.

“The CGC is growing quickly, with more and more quality exhibitors and visitors attending the event. However, that has meant that the venue is becoming too small.”

Award-winning fishing tools manufacturer Frichy showed off its new CX Series of pliers at the show and was delighted by the reaction from visitors to the event. “The feedback we get on our products is very important to our R&D teams,” says the company.

“The Weihai CGC Expo is growing in importance within the international fishing tackle market and attracting increasing numbers of international buyers. It is a very important event for us.”

Iris San, of Dongyang Kangle Fishing Tackle Company, an OEM line manufacturer, said that the Weihai CGC show was an opportunity to show off new products for the upcoming season and meet new customers.
