Middy Tackle launches first branded reels

UK fishing tackle manufacturer Middy Tackle has launched the first ever company-branded reels in its 46-year history.

Up to last year Middy had only ever been a distributor of other branded reels. However, that is changing this season with the launch of the White Knuckle CX and Baggin’ Machine CXR.

Company Managing Director David Middleton said: “We have never offered reels, yet we sell thousands of rods every year. It made sense to add value for money and high quality reels to our product portfolio.

“Our rods have built an enviable reputation over the past five years with increasing year-on-year sales. Anglers will now be able to buy reels that they can be confident complement our rods.

“In addition, we specialise in developing items for the latest carp pool fishing environment so the CXR reels are built and designed with commercial pool fishing in mind.”

Middleton added that the company plans to continue to increase its range of fishing products. “We started many years ago with just floats and even today we still make them in our own purpose-built factory in the UK. The range has expanded to cover many items of tackle, but we still have gaps.

“For example, we do not have umbrellas. We have many anglers who now want to buy and be seen with Middy gear and we constantly got asked about a reel range.

“Over the next few years the range of items will be expanded to cover gear we currently do not offer. We are developing a range of seatboxes, but it will take around three years to come up with a really good quality one.

“We are innovators, not copiers, so everything takes us longer.”
