UK-based Measom Freer is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year as a stockist of plastic bottles and containers.

At least 30 of those years has seen it as a provider of products for the recreational fishing industry, particularly the carp angling sector, where its items are in demand for storing baits and additives.

Accounting for up to 10% of its business, fishing is a growing area for Measom Freer. Its most popular products include bottles and caps for attractants, additives and flavourings, jars for boilies, pop-ups and pellets, alongside hand scoops and measuring scoops for food and supplements.

The business, which is based near Leicester, has come a long way since it was formed in 1937 by Gordon and Eve Freer, who were involved in the early forming and pressing of plastics.

By the late 1940s Measom Freer had become one of the pioneers of processing plastics by injection moulding, supplying buttons and mouldings for the fashion and clothing trade. Since then it has continued to blaze a groundbreaking trail in the industry, expanding its markets, which currently encompasses a huge portfolio of sectors ranging from beauty and toiletries, food and beverages to laboratories and museums.

Today, the firm is still owned and run as a family business by the third generation of the Freer family.

It is still growing its markets and diversifying where possible. It now boasts modern CNC milling and turning capabilities and incorporates 3D modelling and design programming to improve its toolmaking for both innovative products and custom moulding services.

“Our production machinery is technologically advanced and we keep up to date with modern material advances which allows us to stay one step ahead, meaning we can offer customers the products they need, when they want them and at the right price,” said Marketing Director Anne Freer.

“We are proud to be a family business, with customer focus at our core. We also provide a good working environment with the majority of our staff staying with us through the years – one employee recently retired after 50 years.”
