Can Jordan Lee make history and win the Bassmaster Classic for the third year running?
That is the big question in the run-up to the 47th tournament which begins tomorrow in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is currently among just three anglers – Rick Clunn and the bass fishing mega star Kevin VanDam are the others – who have won back-to-back Classics.
The 27-year-old Mossy Oak Fishing Team pro said: “I have frequently been asked about my thoughts on winning three classics in a row. Winning any Bassmaster tournament is extremely difficult and winning the big one is the most difficult of all.
“The biggest press corps of the year will be present at this event. Also, the largest fan base that competitive anglers see each year will be in the bleachers at the weigh-ins. The top other 51 fishermen from 2018 will be anglers against who I’ll be competing in the 2019 Classic.
“No one has ever won three consecutive Classics. However, I believe if I can find the bass and stay with my game plan, I may have a chance to win my third consecutive one.”
Lee has fished strongly this year. His recent victory at a Major League Fishing event in Kissimmee, Florida will only contribute to the confidence level an angler requires to beat the top competitors in the world.
