More than five months before they are due to take place, the Japan Fishng Festival in Yokohama and the Fishing Show Osaka have been cancelled because of a feared spike in the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia.

Any hopes of an early reprieve from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 have been dashed with the announcement of the cancellation of two major fishing tackle shows in Asia.

The Japan Fishing Festival in Yokohama and the Fishing Show Osaka, which take place in January and February, will not now go ahead following predictions of a resurgence of the pandemic in Asia during that time.

Both shows survived this year, taking place before lockdown restrictions came in to place across the globe. The cancellations are worrying for the trade and cast a shadow over other fishing events in the region next year.

At the time of going to press the situation regarding next year’s China Fish, which fell victim to the virus last year, is unknown.
