Fishpond Inc., creators of high quality fly-fishing and outdoor travel gear and accessories, scooped a hat-trick awards at the IFTD show in Las Vegas last wek.

The Vaquero Vest (Chest Pack/Vest), Black Canyon Backpack (Eco-friendly Product) and the Westwater Zippered Duffel (Luggage) all triumphed in The New Product Showcase and were part of a wide range of new launches from the company.

A new recycled fabric and additions to the popular Westwater Collection were central to show line-up. Following the success of the Westwater Collection in 2013, four new pieces have been added to the range. All of the products feature TPU welded fabric construction and YKK #10 water resistant zippers with oversize pulls (where applicable).

The Westwater Roll Top Boat Bag has all of the features of the current boat bag, but with a roll top design for anglers who need assurance their gear will stay dry no matter what the conditions. The Westwater Lumbar Pack is for anglers who carry a bit less gear, but still need room for essential tools, fly boxes and accessories. It also has an integrated net slot and a mesh lumbar support for increased ventilation and comfort.

The Westwater Zippered Duffel is a slightly smaller version of the Westwater Large Zippered Duffel. Coming in at just over 5,000 cubic inches, it is designed for shorter trips when gear needs protection. Rounding out the new Westwater collection is the all-new Messenger Bag. The streamline design features a large zippered flap pocket, a back zippered pocket for additional organisation, a secure interior pocket, an interior laptop sleeve, and an adjustable, padded shoulder strap.

Fishpond takes environmental responsibility seriously, so 2014 brings 14 new or improved fishing packs and vests featuring a lightweight, recycled fabric made from old commercial fishing nets. Both the new YKK Aquaguard #8 exterior zippers and the recycled fabric are water resistant.

The new products in this collection lead off with the Black Canyon Backpack. With an adjustable external frame, offset air mesh back and padded, contoured shoulder straps, this capacious backpack helps keep anglers cool while hiking in remote fishing destinations. The modular design allows docking compatibility with many of Fishpond’s chest/lumbar packs, and two zip-out rod tube holders comfortably carry fly rods. The large main backpack compartment accommodates plenty of gear, while three smaller pockets offer quick access to necessities.

At just under 400 cubic inches smaller, the Bitch Creek Backpack has all the same features as the Black Canyon Backpack minus the external frame. Instead, this pack has a structured air mesh back panel to comfortably carry loads. It also has two smaller pockets for storing extra items.

Fishpond’s new recycled fabric is also incorporated in four new chest or lumbar packs. Leading off is the Yampa Guide Pack. With two main zippered compartments and signature molded, drop down fly bench and interior pockets, this pack is designed to carry everything for a long day on the water. Two exterior pockets hold water bottles and the structured air mesh back panel keeps anglers cool and comfortable.

The Encampment Lumbar Pack is next in the line-up. Its simplistic design includes a zippered main compartment for secure fly box storage, an additional front zippered compartment for easy access and cord loops for tools and accessory attachment. There are also two exterior water bottle pockets. Compression straps help distribute the load or expand to hold a rain jacket. This pack can be worn in three ways – as a lumbar pack, as a sling pack or as a chest pack.

The Savage Creek Chest Pack and the Medicine Bow Chest Pack complete the recycled fabric product collection. The Savage Creek Chest Pack is thoughtfully designed to fit the contours of the body for maximum comfort. One main storage compartment takes large fly boxes and the exterior slash pocket holds items needed quickly such as hemostats.

The Medicine Bow Chest Pack is a bit smaller. but has all of the same features, including a zip-down fly bench. This pack can either be worn as a chest pack or attached to a wader belt. Both packs offer the modular design to fit with a multitude of Fishpond’s backpacks.

The following products have been updated with new colours and recycled fabric: Wasatch Tech Pack, Marabou Vest, Sagebrush Mesh Vest, Gore Range Tech Pack, Dragonfly Guide Lumbar Pack, Cirrus Guide LTE Hydration Lumbar Pack and the Waterdance Guide Pack.

Combining traditional fabric with modern design, the Vaquero Waxed Canvas Vest features large horizontal main pockets to accommodate multiple large fly boxes, and four additional zippered pockets for smaller boxes and accessories. Four front flap pockets are great for tippets and leaders. There is also a quick access hemostat dock and dual snap attachment straps for plier sheath or other essentials.

The Hook Jaw River Tool combines a bottle opener, line cutter and tippet gage in one convenient tool. It is made from aerospace aluminum and titanium and has a retractor/lanyard attachment hole and is laser engraved.
