Smith, the popular sunglasses brand and a regular exhibitor at ICAST, has introduced its new CORE Collection in honour of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
The collection is made from post-consumer water bottles and underlines the US company’s commitment towards sustainable manufacturing.
Smith developed a ‘sustainability task force’ to identify ways to reduce its environmental impact – and the first model in the series is the Lowdown 2 CORE.
It features a matt-black frame made entirely from five recycled plastic bottles, with stainless steel barrel hinges and polarised lenses made from Smith’s castor oil-based Evolve material.
An embossed logo avoids the use of adhesives. Each pair comes in a bag also made from recycled bottles and is boxed in 100% recycled packaging.
Other popular Smith styles, including the Eastbank and Shoutout frame designs, will have eco-friendly features and will be added to the CORE Collection in August this year.
Earth Day, celebrated each year on April 22, was founded to demonstrate support for environmental protection and is coordinated in 193 countries.
