High-end Japanese rods from LEGIT DESIGN are now available for the first time in the US through online retailer Arundel Tackle.
The Chicago business, founded two years ago, is the exclusive representative for LEGIT and is looking for retail and distribution partners for its WILD SIDE freshwater rods and Blue Way and Skuad saltwater rods.
Arundel Tackle was set up by Jeff Maling after his son, Tyler, discovered start-up rod manufacturer LEGIT during a family holiday in Japan.
“After 20 years of founding, running and selling a large digital agency, my boys and I decided to explore our passion for fishing,” said Maling. “It was really Tyler who was the impetus for the business. He fishes everywhere we go and booked us with a Japanese pro on Lake Biwa who was one of the early advocates of WILD SIDE.”
LEGIT was founded by rod designer Iitaka Hirofumi and pro bass angler Onikata Takeshi, who has 17 years’ experience as a rod developer. Its WILD SIDE rods are used by top Japanese bass angler Daisuke Kita.
“There are more than 100 SKUs across all three series and we are presently collaborating on creating the best striped bass rod,” added Maling. “We are looking for retail and distribution partners for all three series, which have never before been available in the US. We are also taking reservations for the striped bass rod.”
Arundel is currently showcasing WILD SIDE products, but plans to expand its focus on high-end bass fishing equipment and is seeking partners in the reel, line and apparel categories.
Arundel, named after the original name of Maling’s home town of Kennebunkport, Maine, signed up for the recent ICAST Online trade show and two of its rods featured in the event’s New Product Showcase.
