The global tackle industry may be in the vice-like grip of COVID-19, but the unprecedented crisis is also an opportunity, says Ben Patrick, Managing Director of international lure company Halco Tackle.
Patrick and his team in Freemantle, Western Australia, are using the time to review and reassess the way the business operates.
“It’s a time to reflect on our current practices. I’ve looked at things we have done almost automatically for years and now I’m asking myself ‘is that really necessary?’
“It’s a time to stop and look at what you are doing, to really try to gauge what is working and what is not. Sometimes what you see is not great, but it also presents opportunity.”
The award-winning company has reduced hours slightly, is catching up on long forgotten jobs and is working on future strategy. It also continues to work on new products and maintaining business relationships.
“Our partners need to help us and we need to help them. If we don’t work together on this it is going to be very difficult,” says Patrick. “We are still trading and are ready to reduce production if needed, but that is not our plan.
“This is unchartered territory and nobody knows if their business will survive. No one will emerge unscathed, but rest assured we will fight tooth and nail to ensure we come out the other end.”
