GO Outdoors, the subsidiary of JD Sports, has completed its acquisition of the UK’s second largest tackle retailer, which went into administration in December.
It has bought Fishing Republic, securing the jobs of over 100 staff at its 14 stores across the region. Fishing Republic joins the stable of JD Sports outdoor activity brands which, alongside GO Outdoors, also includes Blacks, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors and Tiso.
Lee Bagnall, CEO of the Outdoor Division at JD Sports, said: “Our GO Outdoors fishing business is already significant and this gives Fishing Republic and some of our branded partners a huge opportunity for the future.”
The acquisition brings the total number of fishing outlets within the group to 78 across the UK. GO Outdoors itself was bought for £100m by JD Sports in 2016.
