Freedom Hawk, the kayak manufacturer best known for shallow water boats, has introduced a new model that also caters for deeper water and ocean anglers.
The Massachusetts manufacturer chose the IFTD show in New Orleans to reveal its new Pathfinder model for the first time – and was delighted by the response.
“Most of our boats are for shallow water fishing, so the fact that the Pathfinder is so versatile and can be used in the ocean created a lot of interest,” reported Director of Sales and Marketing David Hadden. “It was received beyond expectations.
“It will likely become our most popular boat. We begin shipping December 1st and we are expecting big things. It will perform in all conditions, from open water ocean to coastal flats, lakes and rivers. The angler can stand, sit, paddle, pole, motor or troll.”
Freedom Hawk was inspired to make the new boat by North Atlantic and Pacific coast anglers and following strong demand from Europe.
The Pathfinder features the same, patented outrigger as the popular Freedom 12 series, offering three outrigger positions for stability and efficiency of movement.
A number of accessories introduced to make the kayak especially fisherman-friendly include an Elite Angler seat and motor mount (both optional). Anglers will appreciate a battery space behind the seat and a dry storage hatch in the bow. A stabilising Stake-Out Stick is also available.
The Pathfinder’s hull is 10ft 4ins long. Overall length with outriggers is 14ft 2ins.
Encouraged by the response in New Orleans, Hadden added: “A lot of shops are looking to expand their base and our kayaks are the right answer for them. Because they are patented and not over-distributed, they offer customers a product that is not everywhere and one they can make good margins on.”
