Former Shimano Chairman Yoshizo Shimano dies aged 85

Yoshizo Shimano died last week of heart failure at the age of 85.

The former Chairman of fishing tackle giant Shimano, Yoshizo Shimano, has died of heart failure at the age of 85 .

In a statement on its website, Shimano said: “The contribution he made to Shimano’s business cannot be measured and his impact will be felt forever. On behalf of our management team and employees, we extend our deepest condolences to his family.”

The group also published a profile of Yoshizo Shimano which included his achievements with the Japanese giant.

1934: Born, the third son of the founder, Shozaburo Shimano.
1965: Assumed the position of President of Shimano American, the sales subsidiary in the United States. During his 27 years there, he contributed greatly in developing the overseas market.
1995: Appointed President of Shimano Inc.
2001: Became Chairman of Shimano Inc.
2012: Made Chairman Emeritus of Shimano Inc. 
Yoshizo was a powerful leader in the Japanese bicycle industry for a decade from 2001 as President of the Bicycle Association of Japan (now the General Bicycle Association), serving as its honorary chairman since 2011.

His funeral was attended by close relatives and his wife, Ikuko Shimano.
