Svendsen Sport CEO, Lars Svendsen (left) welcomes André Akkermans to his new role at DAM.

Former Fox International Director, André Akkermans, has been hired by Danish tackle giant Svendsen Sport A/S as Sales Director of its sister company, DAM.

The Dutchman has 25 years of experience at the top level of the industry. From 1993 to 2001 he built up the Sensas Benelux BV organisation after which he joined the Fox International Group with responsibility for setting up its European distribution centre in Belgium.

In 2010 he was appointed European Managing Director of the English-based tackle manufacturer, where he oversaw the European sales and marketing activities as well the implementation of direct sales and distribution in major eastern European markets.

Svendsen Sport says that it sees great potential in the DAM brand, which is highly regarded for its quality and innovation.  CEO Lars Svendsen said: “This mix which makes up the DNA of DAM is just waiting to be unfolded and André, who has forged strong relationships with retailers by working with them to grow their business through creative programmes, is the right person to make this happen.

“We welcome André, anticipating that he will be instrumental in bringing DAM and the individual markets together to provide even more value to their business. His combination of knowledge about the industry and sales management skills will serve him well as he takes on this new responsibility,”

Svendsen added that despite the sales of DAM and Svendsen Sport to Danish equity fund, Maj Invest Equity, and the change in management at DAM there will be no changes in the sales structure of the company. He said that DAM and Svendsen Sport will keep their separate sales organisations as well as product development and marketing teams.
