Fishing journalist Jens Bursell had a narrow escape with a 3mm diameter metal pole.

A top Danish fishing journalist has hailed eyewear from Wiley X for saving his sight in one eye.

Jens Bursell, Editor-in-Chief of angling magazine Fisk & Fri, says that the hardened lenses ensured that a 3mm diameter metal pole did not enter his eye when he stooped to pick up some fishing tackle in his shed. The rusty monkeyclimber metal pole was jutting out of an old bucket and without the protective eyewear would have caused lasting damage.

“I feel quite sure that if it had hit my eye while wearing normal glasses – or even worse no glasses at all – this would have been the end of my left eye.”

Wiley X EMEA’s Vice President and Outdoor Director, Thomas Wæver said: “Luckily fishermen have begun to be aware of all the dangers their eyes may be exposed to when out angling, but they often forget accidents may also happen in other situations too, like when unpacking gear after a long day on the water.

“Jens’ story is a lucky one and just proves that accidents can happen at any time. Wiley X is the only premium brand certifying its eyewear according to both American and European safety standards – your eyes therefore stand a better chance of avoiding injury in an accident while wearing Wiley X.”
