The EFTTEX Best New Product Awards 2017

The Trophy Specialist rods under the A Jensen brand are unique in being extremely light, short, very far casting and powerful, says their manufacturer Pacific Wave. They are especially designed for bigger fish like pike, carp, jacks, roosterfish, false albacore, dorado and other strong powerful fresh and saltwater species.

Says Pacifc Wave: “During the development of this rod we used several test anglers that fished very different species and places. Among them were fishermen from an international pike fly fishing club and they have now adopted this rod as their ‘trademark’ rod, meaning everyone in the club uses it.

“Their reaction was typical. So many saltwater fishermen react by saying this is by far the best rod they have ever tried. Many were very sceptical about a rod as short as 8ft for fishing, especially in coastal areas where you’re often wading deep. But these short powerhouse rods surprise almost everyone. “They deliver a tremendous line speed and narrow loops that generate a long cast and back casts higher than most anglers could manage with longer rods.

“This is exactly what you need when you use big and bulky flies. The Trophy Specialist rods are therefore fantastic for driving what we call ‘half chickens’ way out towards the horizon.

“At the same time these rods are very light, delicate and sensitive. It gives you the feeling of using much lighter gear than you actually have in your hands, and yet you still have the power to take up the fight when that dream fish decides to chew your fly.”

The A Jensen Trophy Specialist is a beautiful dark green colour and made with the highest quality cork handle and fittings. The action is medium fast, and the blank picks up power deep down. The bottom of the blank has an extra layer of woven carbon for extra butt power when big fish need lifting. The blank is made with Pacific Wave’s new SBD (Slim Blank Design). SBD has many advantages, says the company. Being very slim, they generate less air resistance. “We use the same amount of material as in a normal blank, so the walls are thicker, and hence the rod is stronger,” says Pacific Wave.
