The CEO of one of America’s biggest fishing tackle retailers is considering running for President, according to various news sources and comment on social media.
Reports suggest that Edward Stack, the billionaire boss of the Dick’s Sporting Goods chain and a long-time Republican donor, is testing the idea of running in 2020 through a third-party bid.
Stack (64) has been in the spotlight since last year when he halted the sale of semi-automatic weapons in Dick’s stores following the school shooting at Parkland, Florida.
Stack has yet to be quoted on his intentions and some cynics have suggested the rumour is designed to boost sales of his recently published book, It’s How We Play the Game, in which he called for a vote on universal background checks.
Dick’s Sporting Goods has some 850 stores across the US and reportedly has around 10% of the recreational fishing retail market.
