Daniel Galhardo, the man who introduced the Japanese tenkara technique of fly fishing to the US, has now published a book on the subject.
Galhardo, the founder of Tenkara USA, shares everything he has learned since discovering the style more than 10 years ago in what he describes as ‘a manifesto of fly fishing simplicity’.
‘Tenkara: the book’ is a highly visual volume containing lessons, stories, techniques and tackle information, as well as the history, culture and philosophy behind the unique style.
It is illustrated throughout by Jeremy Shellhorn, who combines images and graphics in a reader-friendly style.
“Tenkara changed my life,” says Galhardo, who makes regular trips back to Japan to learn from the tenkara masters. “It brought me into touch with a community passionate about a simple way of fly fishing. I have created this book for them.
“One of the things I am most excited about is that the book also contains QR codes that you can scan with your phone to take you to a video that brings that section to life.
“The best way to keep fly fishing simple is to learn how to rely more on technique than gear. This book contains that knowledge.”
The 216-page book is available in both print ($24) and digital ($12) versions at www.tenkarausa.com.
