Daiwa has broken with tradition by launching new reels at a European show.

The Japanese giant normally introduces its new reels in its home country. But the latest models of its hugely successful Saltiga and Exist reels were unveiled for the first time at the Clermont-Ferrand show in France last weekend.

“It is the first time these two products have been introduced to the public anywhere in the world,” said Guillaume Fourrier, Marketing Director for Daiwa in France. “We are happy and proud that we have launched them to our European consumers even before they have been introduced into the Japanese market.

“We kept their introduction secret right up to the show. Neither the visitors nor our competitors knew anything about it.

“It was a fantastic success. They attracted incredible attention from visitors. We registered a huge number of orders for the reels, with customers ranging from normal fishermen to professionals.”

The decision to premiere the new models in France was influenced by the timing of the French show, with the Carrefour National Pêche et Loisirs falling right at the start of the European season. Both reels will be launched in Japan at the Yokohama Show from January 30th to February 1st.

These latest versions of the flagship Saltiga and Exist reels incorporate Daiwa’s celebrated Mag Sealed bearings technology. The Saltiga has three Mag Sealed ball bearings in the line roller and on two sides of the drive gear to improve smoothness and lifespan. There is also a new Automatic Tournament Drag (ATD) system, compared by Daiwa to an automatic transmission that works at the specific force intended.

The Exist, first launched in Japan in 2012, has undergone similar improvements and also benefits from Mag Sealed technology. It is, says Daiwa, the most technically advanced spinning reel in existence.

There are seven models in the 2015 Saltiga range and four models in the Exist line-up.
