Daiwa UK has announced plans to handle its own distribution to dealers in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
The decision to go direct to retailers in the three countries will bring to an end the Japanese company’s long relationship with BIOS & Nordic Outdoor.
The implementation of direct sales from Daiwa to retailers will be phased in throughout 2015, with the plan taking effect in Denmark from May 1st, in Sweden from October 1st and in Norway from December 1st.
The move is in line with the strategy implemented by Daiwa’s parent company, Globeride Inc., to move to a direct distribution system in most European and Scandinavian countries.
Daiwa UK Sales and Marketing Director Robin Morley told Angling International that this strategy was following on from the direct sales system put in place in Finland over the past two years. It also mirrors Daiwa Germany’s expansion of direct sales into most eastern European countries and Daiwa France’s direct sales to Portugal.
Keen to acknowledge the contribution made by BIOS & Nordic Outdoor, Morley added: “The fact we have worked with them for around 15 years says a lot about them. They understand why we are doing this and couldn’t have been more helpful in making the transition as smooth as possible for all parties.”
The changeover dates have been agreed with BIOS & Nordic Outdoor. Until then, the current distribution system will continue to operate to ensure a smooth transfer of business and minimum disruption for retailers and consumers.
Further news relating to structure and staffing is expected in the next few months.
