Custom Jigs & Spins has announced its intention to make the most of the growing catfish sector in North America following its acquisition of Rippin Lips.
The Iowa-based business has bought the up-and-coming company and plans to deliver a comprehensive catfish product line for US anglers.
Custom Jigs & Spins owner and industry veteran, Bob Gillispie, said he intended to expand the Rippin Lips retail presence of branded rods, bait, tackle and speciality products, such as scent and scent elimination.
“About a decade ago we recognised many of the same things happening in ice fishing as we are seeing in catfishing today,” said Gillispie. “Back then excitement for ice fishing was bursting at the seams, yet great tackle and gear was sorely lacking at retail. With companies like ours leading the charge, anglers now have multiple aisles of ice tackle to meet their needs.
“It is pretty exciting to see the same thing starting to happen in catfishing right now. Catfish anglers are passionate about their sport and hungry for quality tackle at affordable prices.
“We recognised in Rippin Lips one of the top catfish-specific product lines in the industry – and an outstanding opportunity to help meet this energised, yet largely under-served customer.”
Rippin Lips is based in eastern Iowa, close to countless catfish waters and close to the borders of several states where the species ranks number one in abundance and popularity. Gillispie says that throughout this region – from Dakota down to Kansas – sales of the company’s branded products have grown noticeably during the past year.
He anticipates the catfish tackle trend to spread nationwide, with Rippin Lips assuming a leadership role in newly expanded markets.
“These are exciting times for catfish anglers. We’ve got more fish available in more places – as well as more truly giant fish now than I can ever recall. The tackle and gear is improving, advancing and expanding in availability. Rippin Lips looks forward to helping grow the sport and outfitting anglers with the gear they need to catch more catfish.”
