Multi award-winning sunglasses brand, Costa, has partnered with Atlanta-based brewery, Sweetwater, to raise awareness around the growing issue of plastic pollution in waterways and oceans.
The launch of Kick Plastic Pilsner is an expansion of the Kick Plastic programme created by Costa in 2015, with a percentage of profits from the beer’s sales being donated to various clean water partners.
These include the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, the Coastal Conservation Association, Trout Unlimited and the Waterkeeper Alliance.
The collaboration is also part of Sweetwater’s annual Save Our Water campaign, which has donated more than $1 million to organisations dedicated to protecting natural resources and habitats.
“Protecting the health of our oceans has always been a top priority at Costa and we take great pride in partnering with like-minded organisations who share our passion,” said T.J. McMeniman, Vice President of Marketing at Costa.
As well as supporting efforts to remove plastics by purchasing Kick Plastic Pilsner, consumers are also being encouraged to spend time helping with the clean up. They can win free Costa sunglasses by posting an Instagram photograph of the trash they remove and tagging it #SaveOurWater19. For details visit http://waterkeeperbrew.org/terms-conditions.
Costa, which manufactures in Florida, won the Best Eyewear award at last year’s ICAST – the world’s biggest tackle trade show. In 2015 the company commissioned a nine-foot marlin sculpture made entirely of plastic debris from the ocean and displayed it in the entrance hall of ICAST.
