Delalande Peche, the leading French manufacturer of soft lures, jigheads and leads, has backed a petition launched by its trade body, GIFAP, imploring the country’s government for greater support during the COVID-19 crisis.
In a press release the company describes the recent ban on fishing across the country – implemented because of the Coronavirus pandemic – as a ‘real disaster’ for everyone involved in recreational fishing.
It said: “The confinement, the closing of stores, the impact on production and more recently the ban on fishing will have serious repercussions on the whole sector.
“That is why Delalande is encouraging everyone in recreational fishing to sign the petition in order to get this situation recognised as a ‘natural disaster’. A small tick will not take more than two minutes, but it could help retailers, manufacturers, guides and many more to recover after the difficult episode that we are all experiencing together.
“Do not hesitate to flood your social media networks with this petition and ask everyone – fishermen or not – to sign it.”
As reported on the Angling International website last week, Gifap is urging the French Government to declare COVID-19 a natural disaster so that businesses in France can claim recompense through their insurance.
At the time of going to press, more than 3,000 people had signed the GIFAP petition, which can be found here.
