The Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) has cancelled this year’s industry show.

Australia’s fishing tackle trade show – due to take place on the country’s Gold Coast from July 9th to 11th – has been cancelled.

A statement from the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) said: “As we are all hearing, the ongoing COVID-19 developments around the world are continuing to change and shape the way businesses operate on a day-to-day basis.

“We have been closely monitoring the information available via the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Australian government to ensure the health and safety of our members for the show.

“Unfortunately, given the current COVID-19 climate, we’ve made the tough decision to cancel the 2020 AFTA trade show.

“It’s been a difficult decision. However, we felt in making the call at this early stage we allow members the opportunity to plan their businesses and the coming season.

“We will continue to review the updates from both the WHO and the Australian government. When restrictions lift we will encourage exhibitors and retailers to work in conjunction to support smaller regional shows to assist in planning the summer season ahead.

“We are able to confirm the 2021 show will take place from June 3rd to 5th at the Gold Coast Convention Centre (GCCC). Over the next few days our Event Coordinator, Nicholle Smith, will be in touch with pre-booked exhibitors to discuss options.

“We will have the option available for pre-booked exhibitors to retain their current booking and stand space and roll over to the 2021 dates. If this is an option for your business it will assist with the ongoing negotiations with the GCCC and support the ongoing strength of AFTA.

“As an industry we’re used to punching forward into rough water and we’ve shown resilience and an ability to band together through challenges in the past. This is no different.

“We’ll continue to provide updates to our members over the coming weeks and months, take care and stay safe.”
