The new Tournament Series of downriggers from Johnson Outdoors brand, Cannon, have been designed to withstand the worst conditions imaginable.

Continually exposed to saltwater spray and pounded by long runs over breakers, downriggers get more punishment than most fishing gear. Protection against the elements is vital.

And there is nobody who does that better than Cannon, says the Johnson Outdoors brand.

Every rigger in Cannon’s Tournament Series – from the Uni-Troll 10 STX-TS manual to the Digi-Troll 10 TS – is designed to withstand the worst fishing and boating conditions imaginable.

Uni-Troll 10 STX-TS’s One-Hand Clutch Deploy system allows the weight to be lowered by simply backing off on the clutch, which deploys the ball slowly and smoothly to the desired depth. When it’s time to bring the weight back up, a 2:1 spool-to-handle retrieval speed raises it quickly and with minimal effort.

The unit comes pre-spooled with 200 feet of 150lb test stainless steel cable and includes a three-digit depth counter and line release. The spool is also made from stainless steel, as is the heavy-duty telescopic boom. The boom extends from 24 inches to 53 inches to create the seamless lure spread and is tipped with an enclosed boom-end pulley to prevent line jumps.

There is a dual-axis rod holder and an integrated ball storage hook keeps the weight secure, even when running in high seas. The easy-access Universal Mounting Base is interchangeable with electric models.

In the electric downriggers category, Cannon’s Magnum 10 STX-TS comes with the same stainless spool and boom configuration as the Uni-Troll  manual, but has the fastest retrieval rate is in the industry at 250 feet-per-minute with up to a 20-pound ball.

It automatically retrieves the weight and stops it at the waterline, so the boat cannot be damaged by swinging weights. In addition, positive ions emitted from the cable combat the negative ions from the vessel to create a fish-attracting field of energy.

The Magnum 10 STX-TS comes with 250 feet of 150lb test stainless steel cable, 3-digit line counter and line release, a low-profile swivel base and a dual-axis adjustable rod holder.

Filled with even more features, both the Digi-Troll 5 TS and Digi-Troll 10 TS electric downriggers’ ‘revolutionary’ control features allow the cycling of the weight up and down at preset intervals and depths, while the Bottom Track feature automatically keeps the bait at a preset distance from the bottom. Up to five different preset depths can be stored for easy reference.

All this information is displayed on the illuminated Integrated Control Screen keypad controls, with large backlit LCD screen. IntelliTroll speed and temp ratings can be displayed, and you can raise and lower the weight, adjust Positive Ion Control, or programme the amount of line out. And the WaterLine Zero feature keeps the weight at a set depth below the surface.

Two line releases and 400 feet of 150lb test stainless steel cable come as standard, and a digital depth counter reveals the exact depth you are fishing at. Both include a dual axis, fully-adjustable rod holder and low-profile swivel base.
