André Akkermans joins DAM as Sales Director

Former Fox International European Managing Director, André Akkermans, is the new head of German tackle company, DAM.

He joined the Svendsen-owned business at the beginning of this month with full responsibility for all operations, including sales, marketing and product development, opening up new markets and formulating strategy.

Previous Managing Director Jesper Bach Sorensen has left the company to seek a new challenge.

“I have known and admired the Svendsen company for many years, so when I learned about this opportunity at DAM I didn’t hesitate to put myself forward,” said Akkermans. “I met with Lars Svendsen and it didn’t take long for us to reach agreement.”

The multi-lingual Akkermans will be based in his hometown of Breda, in Holland, but will spend much of his time travelling throughout Europe.

During 14 years at Fox he was, as European Trading Manager, responsible for setting up the company’s distribution centre at Meer, in Belgium. He went on to become Director and then European Managing Director with full responsibility for European sales and marketing activities.

Before that he spent eight years at Sensas, where he built the brand’s Benelux operation. He left Fox in 2015 to set up his own fishing consultancy business.

“I have always worked for companies that have a real drive for growth and it is the same with DAM,” said Akkermans. “DAM has been around since 1875 and it is a privilege to work for a company with such a long heritage and with such a good reputation.”

Svendsen CEO Lars Svendsen said Akkermans will be instrumental in bringing DAM together with individual markets to provide even more value for its customers.

“He has full responsibility for sales, marketing and product development and for carrying through our growth targets and strategies.

“We have big plans for DAM and André is the right man to lead this. He has established strong relationships with retailers by working with them to grow their businesses through creative programmes and partnerships.

“His knowledge of the industry and his sales management skills will serve him well,” he added.

Svendsen Sport and DAM were acquired by Danish Equity fund, Maj Investment Equity, in 2015. Both brands continue to have their own sales, product development and marketing teams.
