Tom Sadler: New Vice Chairman of the AFFTA Board of Directors.

The American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) has announced three major appointments, including a new Vice Chairman.

Executive Director of the Outdoor Writers Association (OWAA), Tom Sadler, has taken over from David Heller as Vice Chairman of the association, while Michael White and Ben Kurtz have joined the Board of Directors.

Heller, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at R.L. Winston, has moved into an advisory role with AFFTA.

White is an industry sales representative who currently works with a number of companies, including Simms Fishing Products and Umpqua Feather Merchants. “He is a great addition to the Board,” said AFFTA President, Ben Bulis.

“He is well liked and respected throughout the trade and fills an important industry segment on the Board. Sales representatives provide a critical function for the continued growth of fly fishing and I look forward to working with him.”

White added: “I am excited to work with AFFTA and believe my experience as a sales rep – meaning always in the middle – will help me see each side of any issue. I trust this perspective will be mutually beneficial for all parties involved in AFFTA and our industry.”

Kurtz, co-owner of fishing apparel and luggage manufacturer, Fishpond, has replaced Jim Murphy on the Board of Directors following Murphy’s resignation as President of Hardy North America earlier this month.

Tucker Ladd, AFFTA Board Chairman, said: “The appointment of Ben Kurtz represents the addition of a new and young perspective to the sport of fly fishing as well as vision from an industry-leading manufacturer. Ben will undoubtedly bring valuable insight to the Board. I feel confident his participation will enhance the current board and our future goals and objectives.”

“We are all fortunate to be part of an amazing industry which I want to see grow and thrive,” said Kurtz. “It’s important for all components of the industry to come together to realise and achieve these goals. I am very excited for the opportunity to work with AFFTA and to add my perspective as a young business owner.”
