This year is the 90th anniversary of the R.L. Winston Rod Company and to mark the event the Montana manufacturer is reintroducing a special edition of Legacy Rods.
The series is made up of four of Winston’s most revered models:
The Boron IIt 8ft 6in 4wt– the first Winston to use higher modulus graphite with an application of Boron composite. So highly regarded it was dubbed ‘The Staff of Moses’,
DL4 7ft 6in 3wt– the first and only four-piece Winston series with internal spigot ferrules and the most popular small water rod the company ever produced. Gained the reputation as the graphite rod with a fiberglass soul.
The WT 8ft 6in 5wt– the most popular of all Winston WT 5-weight models. Joan Wulff’s favourite rod.
IM6 9ft 5wt– the all-time classic that introduced the famous ‘Winston feel’. Exemplified Winston’s definitive, balanced action.
All four rods are hand-inscribed and feature original specifications, including ferrule style, materials and actions, along with the brand’s historic Winston Trophy label and unique uplocking silver reel seat.
“Each Legacy rod demonstrates our tradition of innovation and the famous ‘Winston Feel’, which have brought anglers back for their next Winston time after time,” says the company.
R.L. Winston was founded by Robert Winther and Lew Stoner in San Francisco in 1929. The company moved to Twin Bridges, Montana, in 1976 and acquired Bauer Reels in April 2016.
