Wieringa: ‘Ross rods will be as big as reels’
Eight months after its acquisition by giant American corporation, 3M, Ross Reels has revealed plans to launch seven new rods.
The Colorado fly company has also announced the addition of saltwater reels into the F1 large arbor series that it introduced last year.
The expansion of the Ross rod range appears particularly significant, with Business Development Manager Jeff Wieringa saying: “We expect Ross rods to be just as big as reels, if not bigger.”
Ross has published advertising for both rods and reels in the July issue of Angling International, with the rod advertisement declaring that Ross is “Not Just Reels”, a seemingly clear message aimed at raising the profile of the company’s rods.
Wieringa added that the company has spent a lot of time designing and building exceptional rods but has not been as strong on communication in the past as it might have been.
The rods will be in the $150 to $320 range and are described by Ross as top quality at an affordable price.
The introduction of Ross F1 Saltwater reels will start with one model, but a series of at least three is in the offing. They will feature the F1 carbon fibre drag system and will debut at the IFTD show in New Orleans in August, with orders being taken from September/October.
Ross will be at both ICAST and IFTD, together with fellow 3M business Scientific Anglers. However, although the booths will be connected, each brand will retain its own identity.
