Danish fishing tackle brand Westin has hired one of the top anglers in his field to spearhead its assault on the European predator market.
Luc Coppens, previously a consultant with the company, has made his association with Westin a full-time arrangement following his appointment as Sales Manager for the Benelux region.
Coppens is one of the best known predator anglers in Europe and among the most successful competition fishermen on the circuit – with his partner Jeremy Staverman, the Belgian is the current World Predator Classic winner and a two-time holder of the Dutch NKS Zander Championship – widely regarded as the region’s toughest fishing competition.
Coppens said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for me. For many years I have worked in sales in the carp sector. However, predator fishing is a great passion of mine and I am really looking forward to the chance of working with Westin on a full-time basis to develop its brand even further.”
Coppens will also be looking after sales for the Benelux region and making appearances at shows and tackle shops throughout Europe.
“Westin is a very strong predator brand in Scandinavia, but is just developing its market share in Europe where predator fishing is taking off. It is very big throughout the region, especially in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. You just have to look on social media to see how it is taking off – it’s an addiction.
“Techniques and tackle vary between Scandinavia and Europe and I will be working with the Westin team to design a complete range of predator gear, including lures and rods, specifically to suit the European style of fishing.”
As a taster of things to come, Coppens revealed that some of his early work will be on show at EFTTEX in Warsaw in June, including new rubber shads and leadheads. “There are a lot of exciting things in the pipeline,” he promised.
