Westin – the Scandinavian lure brand taking big bites out of the large predator market – has given an early preview of the next hybrid lure off the production line.
Ricky the Roach joins Westin’s family of incredibly lifelike lures and will be official unveiled at EFTTEX in Brussels in June, but select dealers – and readers of Angling International – are able to view it this month.
Ricky the Roach will take its place alongside Westin’s Tommy the Trout and the top selling Mike the Pike in a range that is spearheading Westin’s drive to be a dominant force in big predator markets all over the world.
All three lures are typified by their astonishing resemblance to a real fish, their natural swimming action and their one-to-one sizing. Says Westin’s Product Manager, Thomas Sanotra: “Scandinavia is famous for big lures and we want to take full advantage by being a dominant force in the market. Ricky the Roach helps us achieve that.
“We have the credibility given our success in our home market. Combine that with the wow factor of our big lures and you have a strong sales story to take around the world.”
Designed to appeal to anglers with less confidence with super-big lures, Ricky the Roach is smaller than its brothers at 15cm long and 36g. It features the same hard head and click-lock functionality as the other lures in the range. It is low floating and has an incredibly naturalistic swimming action. “We feel we have perfectly captured the erratic swimming action of a real roach,” adds Sanotra.
To sell its lures around the world through a network of distributors, Westin has launched a new website, which can be viewed here. If you can wait a little longer, Ricky the Roach will be on view on the Westin stand at EFTTEX and then available for delivery in Fall / Autumn 2014.
